Sashi Cheliah Biography – Sashi Cheliah Wiki

Sashi Cheliah is a Singaporean-born Australian chef and restaurateur. He was the winner of Season 10 of MasterChef Australia in 2018. Following his victory in 2018, Sashi went on to open his own pop-up restaurant, Gaja by Sashi, in Melbourne. In November 2019, he opened Gaja in Adelaide.

The eldest of seven children, Sashi was introduced to food at a young age through his mother’s café. His strongest memories are of his aunties and mother cooking meals for the growing family in Singapore.

Based in the Star Unit of the Singapore Police Force for nearly a decade, Sashi was highly trained, dealing in special tactics and rescue operations. Working in counter terrorism, kidnappings and high-profile protection within the riot police, it was a time in his life Sashi relished. He left the force in 2011 to relocate to Australia, becoming a prison officer at an Adelaide women’s prison until the MasterChef Australia came calling.
