Dr. Asif Munaf is a medical doctor and fitness coach with expertise in nutrition and wellness. He is best known for his appearances on BBC’s Dragon’s Den in 2019 and The Apprentice in 2024. He is a wellness brand owner from Sheffield.

Asif proudly describes himself as “beauty, brains, body and business”. He is a former founder and director of DATE Smoothie, a line of healthy smoothies based on dates, nuts and seeds. In 2017 DATE Smoothie was voted one of the top 20 most innovative food and drinks brands by Innoveat, a UK food exhibition for the travel sector.

Asif went to Medical School at Hull York Medical School. He also did a master’s degree in Public Health at the University of York, according to his LinkedIn profile. He is one of the handful of doctors in the UK who are also qualified personal trainers. The Sheffield native worked as a team doctor for the York Football Club.

A doctor with a business plan focused on healthy vitamins and supplements, Asif believes his biggest business success to date is launching a business whilst working 12-hour shifts as a doctor during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Asif said: “With my range of vitamins and supplements, I would make sure he [Lord Sugar] is fit, sharp and firing for at least another 20 series.”

Dr. Asif Munaf appeared on Series 15 of BBC’s Dragons’ Den. He entered the Den seeking a £50,000 investment for a 10% stake in his smoothie company ‘DATE Smoothie’. He walked away without a deal after he was told by entrepreneur Touker Suleyman “you’re not a businessman”.

Dragon panel member and entrepreneur Peter Jones told Asif he would “rather” save lives by staying in his profession as a doctor before he also declared himself “out”.

The doctor considers this his biggest business fail. He told the BBC: “Dragons’ Den, D.A.T.E Smoothie. Was far too early but I learnt some great business insights from the Dragons.”

An international sensation, Dragon’s Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.
