Kiefer Floreal is a potter from Kenora, Ontario, and a contestant on The Great Canadian Pottery Throw Down 2024. The potter is originally from Kenora, ON, but now lives in Winnipeg, M.B., where he works from a single-stall garage that he impressively turned into a workshop. He has eight years of experience as a potter.

Kiefer started his pottery journey in high school. He told CBC: “I started in high school, met a teacher that I connected with and the rest is history.” He has been developing his skills through mentorship opportunities over the past decade. Describing his pottery style in three words, Kiefer said: “Improvise, elegant, complex”.

He implements the Japanese technique of Gyotaku to print locally caught fish on pottery. Blending his passion for the outdoors and visual arts, his work is an effort to animate and immortalize the bounty provided by the land.

The Kenora native thinks he can win The Great Canadian Pottery Throw Down since he “can learn and adapt quickly. And I’m cheery and optimistic.”

“I’m on the new CBC series, The Great Canadian Pottery Throw Down,” Kiefer announced on Instagram. “I’m competing alongside some of the most talented and wholesome people I’ve had the privilege of meeting.”

The Great Canadian Pottery Throw Down contestants are Kiefer, Alice Gibson, Thomas Haskell, Susan Johnston, Renu Mathew, Andrew McCullough, Jen Sonnenberg, Jackie Talmey-Lennon, Elsa Valinas and Michael Wood.
