Renu Mathew Biography – Renu Mathew Wiki

Renu Mathew is a Canadian potter, makeup artist, teacher and contestant on The Great Canadian Pottery Throwdown 2024. A resident of Olds, A.B., Renu is no stranger to competition-based shows: she was a finalist on Food Network Canada’s The Great Chocolate Show Down Season 1, proving her multi-talented capabilities when it comes to art.

She majored in sculpture as a university student and currently teaches high school art, as well as an edible arts chocolate course. Renu also teaches cosmetology and works in the film industry during summer when school is out!

Renu started making pottery in high school. She told CBC: “In high school, I had a great art teacher, Mrs. Farthing, who allowed me to spend endless hours in the art room, taught me to make basic glazes and allowed me the freedom to be creative. I worked on the pottery wheel to make many things and she would even drive me home on her way and take me out to dinner with her daughter. She really had an impact on my understanding and appreciation of ceramics.

“I also had an uncle who was a successful sculpture teacher in India who made many public sculptures and carvings. He was always inspirational to me even though he lived far away. From a young age, I wanted to be like him and pursue art as a career.”

Describing her pottery style in three words, she said: “Sculptural, textured, organic”.
