Steven Broughton Great Pottery Throw Down

Steven Broughton Biography – Steven Broughton Wiki

Steven Broughton is a ceramic artist and contestant on The Great Pottery Throw Down 2024. He is the founder of Steven Broughton Ceramics, handmade ceramics made from his home studio in Oxfordshire, using a mixture of stoneware and porcelain clays.

After studying Fine Art at Kingston University, Steven became disillusioned with the art world and stopped making art. It wasn’t until he read The Beauty of Everyday Things a book by the Japanese art critic Yanagi Sōetsu, that he discovered the beauty of function. He was working in a school at the time. He started using clay there during his lunch breaks and stayed at the end of the day to practice his craft.

When Steven moved from Cornwall to Oxfordshire he signed up to a community studio that had just opened in his local area so that he could keep potting. He then moved into his own place and renovated an old out building into his home studio.

Steven is currently a teacher and technician in Art and Design at Abingdon and Witney College. He also teaches pottery specific courses at Oxfordshire Arts.
