Edward King Biography – Edward King Wiki

Edward King is a ceramic artist based in Plymouth, Devon, working in stoneware clay, oxides and reactive glazes. He is a contestant on The Great Pottery Throw Down 2024. He is the founder of Studio Mush, a studio creating Lighting from recycled paper pulp and ceramic.

Edward has been working with clay since 2019, subsequently becoming a member of the Westcountry Potters Association (WPA) in 2020. His background was in the study of Soviet Art History, Fine Art Practice and languages.

His practice centres around notions of destruction, the urban environment and the inherent absurdities and contradictions this brings. The works created are reactionary and performative in their construction, allowing each piece to stand by itself.

“Since the start of my journey with clay, I have drawn on my love for brutalist architecture, decay, destruction and a little bit of sarcasm,” Edward told WPA. “My pieces are predominantly in stoneware clay which I then apply reactive ‘crater-like’ glaze to provide texture.”

Edward is a director of Ceramexe CIC, a non-profit ceramics Cooperative based in Exeter, Devon. Recent exhibitions include London Design Week in Chelsea Harbour, Devon Open Studios and Studio Nine Totnes.

Edward holds a BA (Hons) in Art History & Japanese Culture from Oxford Brookes University.

Edward King is a contestant on Series 7 of The Great Pottery Throw Down on Channel 4. He first tried pottery at a local community centre but is mainly self-taught through trial and error. He now pots in his conservatory at home, recently making a sink for his new house.

The potters joining The Great Pottery Throw Down in 2024 are Andrew Macbean, Cadi Froehlich, Dan Sandham, Daniel, Dave Short, Donna, Edward, Janet Morgan, Princess Fingall, Shanika Dedunu Yeomans, Sophie Wootton and Steven Broughton.
