Janet Morgan is a potter, ceramicist and contestant on The Great Pottery Throw Down 2024. The Llanelli native is also a lecturer in animal science. She is the founder of Planet Janet’s Ceramics.
When recovering from breast cancer in 2014, she decided to finally address her bucket list, which included both pottery and belly dancing. Jan enjoys potting in her garden shed.
“I am a hobby potter who can undertake commissions for personalized gifts and specializes in white earthenware products with my own slip design and underglaze decoration,” Janet said. “I am influenced by nature and fantasy with a passion for combining hand building and throwing in my designs.”
In June 2023, Janet was one of the exhibitors at Ceramica Botanica, a celebration of contemporary handmade pottery and ceramics from across South Wales and beyond, at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. The exhibition was organised by South Wales Potters, one of the largest groups of professional and hobby potters and ceramicists in the UK.
“I am a Llanelli based ceramicist inspired by the joy of nature and world of fantasy,” Janet told the South Wales Potters website. “Still relatively new to the complexities of clay I continue to explore technique and design in hand-building, sculpture and throwing.”
She added: “I have managed to make some of my own slips which I love to sgraffito over freehand. I also get a great amount of joy in hand painting my own designs in underglazes on my finished greenware pieces. Although I do make functional ware I have a burning desire to be more expressive in sculpture and augmentation of my thrown work.”

Janet Morgan is a contestant on Series 7 of The Great Pottery Throw Down on Channel 4. The 12 potters joining The Great Pottery Throw Down in 2024 are Andrew Macbean, Cadi Froehlich, Dan Sandham, Daniel, Dave Short and Donna. Completing the lineup are Edward King, Janet, Princess Fingall, Shanika Dedunu Yeomans, Sophie Wootton and Steven Broughton.
