Calum Montgomery is Chef Patron at Edinbane Lodge on the Isle of Skye. He competed in the BBC’s Great British Menu 2022 and Great British Menu 2024.
Calum grew up in Portree on the Isle of Skye, where he started working in kitchens at the age of 14. He then trained at the City of Glasgow under the watchful eye of MasterChef: The Professionals Winner Gary Maclean.
Calum has worked as head chef at notable restaurants Kinloch Lodge and Ullinish Lodge and spent time at the Two Michelin Star Restaurant Frederikshøj in Denmark where he found great inspiration for his own cooking and took home a deeper respect for ingredients.
In 2017, Calum and his family took the plunge and bought a 16th-century derelict hunting lodge, which we now know to be Edinbane Lodge. Following a complete renovation, the restaurant opened in August 2018 and four bedrooms in May 2019, which was awarded Five AA Gold Stars for its accommodation and Three Rosettes for Calum’s food, demanding recognition beyond its local area.
In September 2022, Calum and Edinbane Lodge were awarded the elusive four AA Rosettes for its food, making it the first ever and only restaurant in the entire Highlands, placing it amongst the elite 2% of UK restaurants, to attract such accolade.
Calum competed in the Scotland region of BBC’s Great British Menu 2022 and was voted Chef Patron of the Year 2018 at the Scottish Food Awards, “Best Newcomer of the Year” in the CIS Awards 2019 and “Restaurant of the Year” at the 2023 Scottish Excellence Awards.
He is also a regular on the festival circuit, participating in cooking demonstrations at The Highland Food and Drink Festival, Royal Highland Show, Scotland’s Larder Live, Skye Live and Foodies Festival.

Calum Montgomery is a contestant on Series 19 of the Great British Menu. He is one of four chefs representing Scotland on Great British Menu 2024 along with Kevin Dalgleish, chef-patron of Amuse in Aberdeen; Ajay Kumar, chef-patron of Swadish by Ajay Kumar; and David Millar, executive chef at Jupiter Artland.
Of his return to the BBC cooking show, Calum said: “This year’s theme was an exciting one and gave me the opportunity to be creative in producing exciting dishes to showcase Scotland’s natural larder of which I am so proud.
“It’s been a pleasure to be back in the Great British Menu kitchens, it’s always a challenge under the pressures of the lights and cameras and such as a world away from my kitchen on the Isle of Skye.
“It was great to share the kitchen with such talented chefs across Scotland and I’m looking forward to the public and our loyal customers watching the story unfold.”
