“My dad, Rob, was my primary caregiver when I was growing up. My mother, Pen, worked full time as an English literature lecturer at university and Dad was a freelancer in music history who put his work on hold to be at home with me. We bonded because of that special time together,” she told The Sydney Morning Herald.

7Plus Interview

Why did you sign up to Dancing With The Stars?

I have always wanted to learn to dance. I’m a terrible dancer. I’ve been hoodwinking directors and choreographers for YEARS by saying “I reckon this character should be a really bad dancer” and actually it’s been meeeeeee all along who has been the bad dancer! Frances on Winners and Losers? Bad dancer. Calamity Jane? Bad dancer. Cyrano? Bad dancer.

What will your challenges be?

I have almost no cardio. But you don’t need your lungs to dance, do you? Wait – DO YOU??

Do you have any previous injuries that you need to consider?

I’m hypermobile so I’m predisposed to injuries. I gotta watch I don’t blow out a hip socket just from JOY.

How do you think you’ll cope with the criticism of the judges?

I mean, bring it on. I’m terrible. Give me your points about how I could be less terrible!

What’s something that we don’t know about you that might surprise your fans?

Ah … she loves to garden? She would KILL to have a dog, but can’t because she travels so much, so she looks after other people’s dogs when they’re away? Just friends’ dogs, it’s not a business… YET.

How are rehearsals going?

I’m really enjoying moving my body like this – I’m slow to pick things up, but I enjoy getting them right and asking things like ‘where is the weight when you do that? What is your other hand doing??’ Whether my partner is enjoying my relentless toddler-like questions is another matter…

How will you psych yourself up before you step onto the DWTS dance floor?

I scream all of my notes to myself in Ian’s face. It’s very calming to him.
