Lee Young is a British antiques dealer, auctioneer and antiques specialist on BBC’s Antiques Roadshow. He is the owner and Managing Director of Dore and Rees Auctioneers in Frome, Somerset. His specialist areas include Asian Art, European Furniture and works of art.

Lee’s interest in antiques started at a young age travelling around auction rooms with his antique dealer father looking for pieces suitable to sell in the family shop. Many summers and holidays were spent working behind the shop counter absorbing knowledge from the many visiting experts. His first job after leaving school was at the local auction house where he fell in love with auctioneering and has followed this passion ever since.

Starting as a porter in 1988 at Messenger May & Bavistock in Surrey, Lee then moved on to become a saleroom manager at Phillip’s Auctioneers. At the age of 25, Lee was promoted to become their youngest-ever branch manager in charge of the bustling Ringwood saleroom.

Lee then became Furniture & Works of Art specialist at Sotheby’s handling world-class objects daily. In 2002 Lee relocated to the US, joining America’s oldest auction house Freeman’s of Philadelphia, heading up their European Art department. Returning home in 2007 Lee took up the same position for Scottish firm Lyon & Turnbull before transitioning to Head of Asian Art in 2010 when the Chinese art market was at the height of its global boom.

Lee moved to the West Country and in 2017 joined Duke’s Auctioneers in Dorchester as Managing Director and Head of Asian Art. In 2021 Lee moved to Dore & Rees.

Lee works closely with leading museums and collections of Asian art, recently lecturing at The Burrell Collection and with the National Museums of Scotland.
