John Hollywood Biography – John Hollywood Wiki

John Hollywood is a freelance and development chef, who has worked in some of the finest restaurants in Northern Ireland. He is a former head chef at The Boat House Dining, as well as former Pastry Chef at Yugo East and The Muddlers Club Belfast. He previously worked as a chef at Graffitti Café and Restaurant, Roe Park Resort and The Barking Dog Restaurant.

Hollywood studied Professional Cookery at Dundalk Institute of Technology. He started his career as a chef at The Barking Dog Restaurant and had stints at Roe Park Resort and Graffitti Café and Restaurant, Belfast.

Hollywood was part of the original brigade at The Muddlers Club which attained a Michelin star. He then decided to branch out into Asian cuisine and techniques in Yugo, and helped open up its sister restaurant – Yugo East – during the pandemic.

John left Belfast and moved to Bangor where he became Head Chef in The Boat House. This is where he developed his own style, always using local Irish ingredients. He has a local forager working with him who sometimes delivers unusual ingredients – he likes the challenge of using these to develop new dishes.

Now John has decided to go out on his own, developing products for suppliers he has met, and possibly private dining in people homes in the future.

John Hollywood Great British Menu

John Hollywood is set to compete in Series 18 of The Great British Menu for the chance to represent Northern Ireland in the series finale of the popular BBC show. The Great British Menu 2023 is inspired by animation and illustration celebrating Paddington’s 65th birthday.

Hollywood wrote on Instagram: “I will be on the Great British menu this year. I was honoured to represent northern Ireland and buzzing to have a craic at the competition, which was tough. Big respect for all that took part in this year’s competition.

“Please tune in to BBC 2 to watch the Northern Irish heat on the 14th of March 8pm. This year’s brief if you haven’t been watching is celebration of illustration and animation and 65 year’s of paddington bear.”

The Northern Ireland chefs in the Great British Menu kitchen are Kerry Roper, John Hollywood, Matt Jordan and Gemma Austin.

Chef John Hollywood is married to Amy Murphy. Hollywood paid tribute to his wife on her 30th birthday, writing: “Happy 30th to my amazing wife Amy. You finally made it to 30 and the greys are coming in but so are mine and we are growing old together so your not alone. You have the kindest heart, more love to give than anyone I know, you put up with my silly antics and I put up with yours. We are still in lockdown restriction but still gonna make it a great day for you no matter what. I love you so much and hope this day is what you deserve. Love from your husband.”
