Kareem Roberts is a professional chef and the Head Chef at Trinity Restaurant Cambridge, a contemporary British restaurant serving thoughtfully composed dishes and excellent wine in a casually elegant atmosphere. He had stints at The Varsity Restaurant, The Chequers Pub, Hallmark Hotel Bar Hill and The Punter Pub Cambridge. He is also a blogger.

Born in Leicester and raised in the West Indies in Antigua, Kareem found his passion for cooking in his home kitchen. Without much in the way of formal fine dining training in his younger years, he attributes his development as a chef to the foods and cultures he’s experienced.

Kareem first set foot into a professional kitchen aged 26, and has worked his way up to his current position as Head Chef of Trinity in Cambridge.

The use of French culinary techniques, Indian spices and his West Indian palate is a key driving force behind Kareem’s food and creativity. He has a passion for taking cuts most others wouldn’t use, and elevating them to a restaurant worthy dish that he refers to as “refined Indian.”

Kareem Roberts is representing the Central region in the Great British Menu kitchen. Joining him are Thom Bateman, chef patron of The Flintlock in Cheddleton, Tom Shepherd, chef patron of Upstairs in Lichfield, and Marianne Lumb, private chef for exclusive clients.

The theme for this year’s competition is inspired by Paddington’s 65th birthday and a celebration of British animation and illustration – from cartoons to comics to computer games. His dishes will be taking inspiration from British animation ‘Fifi and the Flowertots.’

Posting on Instagram, Kareem wrote: “Not a lot of things in life truly leave me speechless but I can assure you this moment was one of them. I made it to Great British Menu.

“I won’t spoil anything obviously but this experience was nothing short of exceptional and met some SOLID folks and I firstly want to thank the producers and the team behind the scenes (ESPECIALLY @sammyjosquire and @cat_darcy because both of you are total dolls 🫡)

“Also, I to show MASSIVE respect to @chefthombateman , @cheftomshepherd , and @chef_marianne_lumb . Believe me when I say you guys were totally sound and cool as the other side of the pillow.

“Lastly, I wanna BIG RESPECT to the judging chef who hasn’t been named as yet and to @andioliver because both of you were everything I hoped you would have been.”
