Corey Curtis is a singer-songwriter from Summerville, Georgia. He is a contestant on The Voice season 25.
Corey’s musical journey began when he joined his church band, where he taught himself how to play the drums. After the band separated, he taught himself three more instruments, including the guitar.
Once he started coming into his voice, he started to write his songs. The first song he ever wrote, titled “Broken,” moved his mother and ignited his passion for music. Corey says his relationship with his mother, whom he credits as his biggest supporter, was a driving force for his pursuit of success.
Corey grew up in Georgia but later moved to Alabama to move in with his brother and, hopefully, find more open doors and musical opportunities. He is a graduate of Chattooga High School and was attending Georgia Northwestern Technical College as a business major when a local newspaper wrote a story about his debut single.
He auditioned for Season 20 of American Idol at age 20 and made it to the end of Hollywood Week.
Corey has also released music, though you might have to replace the e in his first name with a 3 to find it. He has five singles out, including a song called “Oh Aye” from 2021 that has more than 180,000 streams on Spotify.
His most recent release is “Your Number,” a collaboration with Lauren Black and Bobby Crane. It was released in 2023. He also has an original called “Devil in the Bottle.” He wrote it with Caleb Lathrop and Fritz Hager, a Top 5 finisher on Idol Season 20.
When Corey was young, he and his brothers formed a Christian music group called The Young Disciples. They performed together for about three years. His brothers stopped pursuing music after that; Corey continued.
According to his website, he describes his music as acoustic pop with a twist of his flavor and says his biggest inspirations are Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, and Dean Lewis. His goal in music: “Just for someone to get something out of my music. I use the words I write in hopes of making someone smile, think of the happy times, or feel better.”
