Josh Sanders is a musician and lead pastor at Living Grace Church in Kannapolis, N.C. He appears as a contestant in the 25th season of The Voice which premiered on February 26, 2024.

Josh grew up in a family of musicians and started playing bass guitar as a child in the church band. Learning the guitar shortly after in his teenage years, he had the opportunity to join a band called Smokin. In his late teens and early 20s, Josh played in several rock bands, on Rock Legends cruise ships and stages up and down the East Coast.

The Kannapolis native earned golden tickets on American Idol in Season 11(2012) and Season 14 (2015). Josh was 23 at the time of his first Idol audition and lead singer for the southern rock group Preacher Stone. He was still performing secular music at the time of his second audition while also serving as music leader at Mission Baptist Church in Locust, N.C.

In Season 11, he was shown on TV performing Elvis Presley’s “Burning Love” with a group that included eventual Season 13 champ Caleb Johnson. Both years, Josh made it to the end of Hollywood Week before being eliminated.

Josh Sanders is a contestant on the 25th season of The Voice. He took part in the Blind Auditions and performed a rendition of “Whiskey On You” by Nate Smith. He got two chairs to turn: One from Reba McEntire and one from coaching duo Dan + Shay.

“The power, once you got into it, I really did like it,” McEntire said. “Then I saw them turning around — I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, now what am I going to have to do?’ But I would really love to have you on Team Reba.”

Dan + Shay complimented his approach to the song, and said they couldn’t “just give it to Reba.”

Sanders said he leads worship most Sundays, and it helps keep his voice sharp.

He ultimately decided to join McEntire’s team. “Guys I love y’all, but I can’t turn down the queen of country, so it’s Reba,” Sanders said.

The other competitors in The Voice season 25 include Nadège, Donny Van Slee, Gene Taylor, Tae Lewis, Nathan Chester, and others.

After having three daughters, they had a son, Leelynd, who they tragically lost the day he was born. They have been blessed with another daughter, completing their family of 7.

After the loss of their son, Josh leaned into music and the church he pastors to find healing and purpose. When Josh is not with all his girls, you will find him hunting or helping around Kendra’s grandmother’s farm.
