Tara Fares was an Iraqi social media influencer and model. She was one of Iraq’s most followed online stars.
She lived in Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan and in Baghdad.
She was shot and killed in her car in Baghdad on 27 September 2018. She was taken to Baghdad’s Sheik Zayed hospital where doctors reported that the model had at least three bullet wounds.
As a result of her death, speculation mounted on social media that she was killed because she was viewed as a provocative figure in Iraq, where attitudes to women can be conservative.
