Rachael Moreland is a green woodworker based in Berkshire. She is cast in the BBC 1 reality television show Make It at Market as a woodworker.
Moreland carves beautiful, functional wooden objects from locally sourced wood using traditional hand tools. With a lifelong passion for making things by hand, Rachael took up carving in 2020. She quickly fell in love with carving wooden spoons.
“The sculptural form of a spoon often goes unnoticed in everyday life but I’m completely fascinated with exploring the forms and functions of this humble utensil.
“Each spoon I carve has its own personality and I love the process of finding a new object within a piece of wood and breathing new life into such a marvelous natural material.” She said on her BBC1 bio.
According to her website, she has stated that spoons are one of the most common things for beginner carvers to create. Like many introduced to the craft, it was one of the first finished items she made.”

Berkshire native Rachael Moreland is a woodcraft and newbie business expert on the BBC 1 reality television show Make It at Market. She appears in Series 1 episode 11. The Repair Shop’s Dominic Chinea works with a team of craft and business experts to help a group of creators make a living from their hobbies.
She took to Instagram to announce the news of her casting on the show. She wrote: “A week until my episode airs! Watch me carve some spoons on Make it at Market on Monday 16th January, 4.30 pm, BBC One.”
“I had a fantastic time taking part in this series. Not only did I meet some incredibly talented people, but I really challenged myself to see what I was capable of. I had the most amazingly talented mentors @ashandplumb who guided me through what it takes to get a business off the ground.”
She added, “For anyone interested in craftsmanship, starting a small business, or general British wholesomeness, I encourage you to check out the show – there’re already plenty of wonderful episodes available now on BBC iPlayer.”
In a different interview, she said: “I’ve been someone that likes making stuff my whole life, really. Carving is a very therapeutic, calming thing to do– I could sit carving for hours. Before my hand cramps up, anyway.” she jokes.
“I’m still figuring things out, but I’d love to have my own workshop– that would be the dream,” Moreland concluded.
