Matthew Biography – Matthew Wiki
Matthew is a contestant on The Great British Sewing Bee 2023. He is also a dancer and teaching assistant. According to the BBC, his nan was a tailoress who taught him how to sew when he was young. He still feels connected to her when he sews, and keeps her tailoring certificate above his sewing space.
Matthew trained to be a dancer, and spent five years at sea as a Deputy Cruise Director. He performed at the opening ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympics, UEFA Champions League Final and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
As well as dancing, he works at a primary school as a teaching assistant. At work he wears sparkly shoes and loves that the school is happy for him to dress in his authentic style – which is influenced by Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, and fashions from the drag scene.

Shortly after he was announced as a Great British Sewing Bee 2023 contestant, Matthew took to Instagram, writing: “This is the longest I’ve kept my mouth shut! This experience has been amazing and it’s only just begun! My new sewing bee family are the most beautiful humans and it’s an honour to know them!”
He added in another Instagram post: “This is a surreal moment! A dream come true and I’m still not sure it actually happened! So glad I can finally talk about my love of my fellow bees! They’re beautiful humans and an absolute joy to have in my life!”
