Mark Stacey is a Welsh antiques dealer, valuer and auctioneer. He is best known for his regular appearances as an antiques dealer expert on various BBC antiques programs including Bargain Hunt, Flog It!, The Antiques Roadtrip and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.

Mark had an interest in antiques from a young age, enjoying visits to his grandparents’ house in the Welsh valleys and checking the porcelain, furniture and paintings.

Mark’s passion for history led him to antiques. He was a keen collector before he turned to valuing and dealing. “[I’ve] always been interested in History and became a dealer before a valuer and auctioneer,” he said.

Speaking about how he ended up in a career in antiques, he told the BBC: “I’ve always been a collector. As a child it was stamps and coins, and later, rummaging around lots of markets, I started collecting small silver and works of art so I think antiques chose me, and my hobby turned into a way of life, which is full of ups and downs.”

As a collector, Mark developed a love of all things blue and white – distinctive blue and white transfer printed pottery of all types. He was at one time even the Honorary Secretary of the Friends of Blue, a specialist collector’s club.

Since he turned to the antiques trade, Mark has worked for some prestigious auction houses including Bonhams as a general valuer and regional representative, and Sotheby’s, where he began specialising in the ceramics department.

Nowadays Mark works for himself as an independent valuer and auctioneer.

Mark Stacey is an antiques expert on Bargain Hunt. He became involved with Bargain Hunt in 2002 “after seeing an advertisement in the Antiques Trade Gazette, I was selected for a screen test.
