Madoda Mxakwe Biography

Madoda Mxakwe full name Madoda Theo Mxakwe, is the Group Chief Executive Officer at South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Ltd from the 01st of July 2018. He is a former department of public service and administration spokesperson and a Nestlé executive.

Following his appoinment as CEO at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), the SABC Board of Directors said of Mxakwe: “Madoda Mxakwe brings to the SABC a wealth of broad combination of great skills and expertise derived from Senior Executive positions in business, communications and public affairs in both the private and public sector at a national and global level. He has the required business acumen, experience and decisive leadership skills in business turnarounds and transformation.”

Prior to joining the SABC, he was Nestle’s Country Head responsible for Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland and Lesotho. In this role he provided strategic, commercial and financial leadership in the five countries, with a focus on driving sustainable profitable growth.

Between 2013 and 2015, Mr Mxakwe’s strong leadership and results-oriented approach ensured solid growth under difficult economic conditions for Nestle Nigeria where he served as the Head of Sales in Lagos.

In 2010, he was promoted to the position of Deputy Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Nestle’s headquarters in Switzerland, where he was responsible for strategically positioning Nestle, building global partnerships and reputation management.

In 2005, he joined Nestle Corporate Affairs Director for Southern and Eastern Africa, responsible for the company’s corporate communications and transformation programmes. He worked in the office of the Minister of Public Service and Administration, Mrs Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi, as a Director of Media Relations and Communications and was subsequently appointed the Chief of Staff in the Minister’s office.

The SABC has had eleven Chief Executive Officers since 2009, including those who were appointed in an acting capacity, with acting CEO James Aguma who was followed by Nomsa Philiso, before the appointment of Madoda Mxakwe.

Mxakwe attended Ndlovukazi High School and went on to the University of Cape Town for BA and MA. He studied at University of Sussex in the UK, where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Global Political Economy. He also has Executive Leadership Developments certificates from London Business School and Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Gordon Institute of Business School (GIBS). He also has a BA (Education) from Central University of Technology.
