Katja Mia is a Burundian-Irish television presenter, model and social media influencer, known for her work on Virgin Media One’s The Six O’Clock Show and Ireland AM.

Raised in Blanchardstown, Katja studied international finance, economics and German in Maynooth. She has worked as a model with 1st Option, as a YouTuber and content creator, and decided to quit her job in the financial sector during the pandemic to pursue her dreams of presenting on TV.

Ireland AM presenter Katja Mia spent years trying ‘wild’ fad diets after a relative commented on her weight. The presenter told The Ciara Phelan Podcast she tried “fad diets” as young as 14 years old, saying certain diets were “wild”.

“It really did consume my mind a lot… I masked it by trying these fad diets,” she added.

According to the British Dietetic Association, a fad diet is a plan that promotes results such as fast weight loss without robust scientific evidence to support its claims.

Katja Mia is a contestant on the seventh series of Dancing with the Stars on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player. Speaking about joining the show, the Six O’Clock Show host said she was feeling giddy about the challenge.

She told RTÉ: “I’m feeling extremely excited. I feel a bit giddy as well, and I’ve met everyone and everyone’s kind of feeling the same. We’re nervous. We’re like, why did we agree to this? But we’re also ready to just have fun.”

“I was a stage school kid growing up but I haven’t done anything like Latin dancing, ballroom dancing, anything that’s quite technical like that. So that’s the daunting part but between that and just going out with friends and dancing in clubs – I think I’ve got a bit of rhythm, so I should be OK!”

Katja has been seeking advice from her famous friends, including Brian Dowling. She said her Six O’Clock Show co-host has been helping to calm her nerves.

“Brian is basically family with Dancing with the Stars at this point, isn’t he? He’s been great for calming the nerves,” Katja said.

The presenter has also been reaching out to former Dancing with the Stars contestants for advice. She said both Erica Cody and Suzanne Jackson have been hugely supportive.

“I’m also good friends with Erica Cody and she was there to give me advice. Suzanne Jackson gave me her number and said to call her anytime. They’ve been so supportive. So you can really see there’s like a Dancing with the Stars family – a sort of sense of community here with every class.”

Katja is joining a stellar celeb line-up this upcoming season, including Rosanna Davison, Eileen Dunne, and Laura Fox. Other contestants include Wild Youth’s David Whelan, drag icon Blu Hydrangea, Cork TikTok star Miriam Mullins, jockey Davy Russell and Fair City’s Shane Quigley Murphy.
