Jonathan Swan is an Australian journalist. He serves as a national political correspondent at Axios covering both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue. Axios is an American news website based in Arlington County, Virginia. Swan started his journalism career as a national political reporter based in Canberra, Australia’s capital city, for Fairfax Media and also served as a political correspondent for The Sydney Morning Herald. While at the Herald’s reporting team, he earned Wallace Brown Award in 2014 for the most outstanding young journalist, after covering a series of stories on politicians’ misuse of funds that resulted in the Prime Minister changing government policy.

In August 2015, Swan joined The Hill as a part of their campaign team and served as a national political reporter for The Hill, he covered the 2016 presidential campaign, focusing on the Republican side and on donors and campaign finance. In December 2016, he joined Axios, while there he broke several stories about the former Trump administration. He was among the first reporters to report that the U.S. would pull out of the Paris climate deal. In 2016, Politico named him one of its ’16 breakout media stars of the U.S. presidential campaign.

In 2014, he was the Australian selected for the American Political Science Association (APSA) Congressional Fellowship. He thus moved to the United States for a year political fellowship, during the fellowship Swan worked on a congressional staff but later returned to political journalism in 2015. Swan graduated from Sydney Grammar School in Sydney, Australia. He joined the field of journalism in 2010. Swan is Jewish.
