Jill Hobbs is a Scottish artist, painter, and former nurse. She is featured in the second series of BBC1 Make it at Market. Make it at Market Painter Hobbs gave up her 23-year career in healthcare in 2023 to pursue her hobby of painting.
In 2023, she gave the keynote speech about ‘following your dreams, no matter when’, at the 2023’s West Berks Learners Achievement Awards and she exhibited at the ACE space in Newbury until the end of December 2023, holding an open view on the 10th of December.
She will be the ’featured artist’ in Newbury’s Howarths Gallery from January and will be exhibiting at “Connected III” at the Old Fire Station in Henley in April 2024 curated by Cat Croxford and Liz Harvey.

She wrote on her website: “I’m taking part in this year’s series of Make it at Market on BBC1 where I was mentored by the phenomenal Sharon Walters, she has taught me so much in such a short space of time and she has done it in a way that has upheld the integrity of my work.
“More so, she has taught me to paint for myself, that it isn’t just about making money, and this has helped to shape my business into something I’m even more passionate about.”
“This is a lifelong journey for me and I will carry on developing my work by exploring portraiture, landscapes, and the use of vibrant color in acrylics and oils to capture all that we hold most dear (even if that involves painting the odd chicken, I love chickens!).”
