Facundo Tello is an Argentine professional football referee who is a listed international referee for FIFA since 2019. He has officiated in the Argentine Primera División since 2013. He made a name for himself in Argentina after being selected to referee in the country’s first division after only four matches in the second tier.

In 2021, he officiated in the 2021 FIFA Arab World Cup in Qatar. In May 2022, Tello was appointed by FIFA to officiate in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

On Sunday 6 November 2022, World Cup referee Facundo Tello dished out 10 red cards in Argentina’s Champions Trophy final between Boca Juniors and Racing Club. This was after Racing Club midfielder Carlos Alcaraz sparked a melee in front of the Boca Juniors fans with his match-winning goal celebration.

With the teams level at 1-1 in the final minutes of extra-time, Alcaraz directed a header into the corner of the net to win it for Racing. However, his extended celebration infuriated the Boca players, with a video showing them grabbing Alcaraz by the ear and throwing a ball at him.

Tello, who will be one of the officials at the World Cup in Qatar, sent Alcaraz off and dished out five red cards to Boca players after the scuffles. In all, seven red cards were shown to Boca players and three from Racing over the course of the match.
