Drea Blackwell is the Sports Director and Anchor for KSBW-TV in Salinas, CA, California. You can catch up with Drea each weeknight at 5:00, 6:00, and 11:00 on KSBW Action News 8. Drea began working at KSBW–TV as an associate producer in 2014. Over time, she garnered more on-camera opportunities and in 2016, she was promoted to the role of sports anchor and director.

Since 2016, Drea has covered some of the biggest sporting events on the Central Coast. From her on-field reporting of the Oakland Raiders, to her 18th hole access at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Central Coast news viewers turn to Drea for her unique perspective and transparent enthusiasm for all sports. At KSBW, Drea has covered major sports events such as: the 2019 U.S. Open, 2019-20 NFL playoffs, 2016 Super Bowl Media Day, and five AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournaments. Her favorite sporting event to cover is high school football on the Central Coast.

Drea grew up in Monterey and graduated from Monterey High School. After attending Monterey Peninsula College, Drea went on to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from San Jose State University. At San Jose State University, she featured as lead anchor and field reporter on San Jose State University’s weekly news show Update News. She also attended Cuesta College, where she graduated with honors with an Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Arts and Sciences (AS) in Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies, and Humanities.

She began her career in sports as a Media Relations Intern at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in the Salinas, California area and as a Sports Production Intern at ABC Television – KGO-TV in San Francisco. She has also been a Traffic Reporter for the Total Traffic & Weather Network, according to her Linkedin profile.

As part of giving back to the community, she finds time to lend her talents to various community groups and organizations. She particularly has a passion for showcasing student-athlete success and the coaches who guide them. Throughout the year she assists in showcasing Central Coast Coach with the KSBW Golden Whistle Award.
