Dennis East was a South African songwriter and music producer. He started off with various bands in the 1960s and early 1970s. He was a member of The Statesmen, Dialogue, The Rising Sons and Hunky Dory, before going solo.

His first single “Could you ever love me again” was released in 1973. East achieved his first chart success in 1974 with “A rose has to die”. In 1978 he formed the group “Stringray” and once again made the charts with “Better the devil you know”.

Musician Dennis East passed away on Monday, Sept. 12, 2022, at the age of 73 after suffering a stroke on Friday, Sept. 9, 2022. The South African Legends Museum confirmed his death.

Musician Dalene Genis said: “With a heavy heart and great sadness I have to inform you that Dennis East passed away this morning just after 10am. The stroke he suffered on Friday did too much damage and the drs could not save him. Please keep Yvette and Greg in your prayers. You will be missed and you were so loved. RIP Denn – Fly with the angels. Love you always.”
