David Morrish Biography – David Morrish Wiki

David Morrish is a two-time winner of the Hand & Lock, Wilcom Digital Embroiderer of the Year award, and an Embroiderers Guild Scholar. Having created pieces for celebrities and well-known designers, David is keen to see where he can take his brand, Kingfly.

He is a senior fashion academic at Sheffield Hallam University. His role is to educate and inspire others in the realms of fashion, art & design, nurturing and encouraging the next generation of creatives.

According to his website, for the last two years, he has been studying for a postgraduate degree in Fashion & Textiles at Nottingham Trent University. His work is centralized around men’s tailoring, embroidery, and collaborative, participatory design approaches.

In 2019 he was awarded the Wilcom Digital Embroiderer of the Year award. It was part of the Hand & Lock annual embroidery competition and for 2020/21, he was honoured to have been selected as an Embroiderers’ Guild Scholar.

He is currently working in collaboration with the members from the Sheffield branch of the Embroiderers Guild to produce a Bayeux Tapestry-inspired embroidery art piece that highlights a global issue while also promoting embroidery as a craft. The piece is inspired by the physical format and storytelling concept of the Bayeux Tapestry involving multilayers of meanings and many contributors working together to capture a period in time.

David Morrish appears as a budding entrepreneur in the first series of the BBC 1 show Make it at Market. The show is hosted by Dominic Chinea from The Repair Shop.

Announcing his appearance on the show he wrote on Instagram: “Earlier this year I was filmed for a new craft to business TV series… giving me the opportunity to show digital embroidery in a different light to a big audience! 📺.
