Danny Beard is a drag performer, contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK series 4 and host of The Gossip Gays podcast. Danny’s preferred pronouns are “She/Her or They/Them” in drag and “They/Them” out of drag. Originally from Halewood, Danny is best known for appearing on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent andITV2’s Celebrity Karaoke Club spin-off known as Karaoke Club: Drag Edition. The Liverpool-born Drag Queen won Drag Idol UK in 2015 and was the host of the inaugural LCR Pride Awards in 2019.

The self-proclaimed “sassy, shady, singing, cartoon clown” first started drag after they merged their love of contemporary performance and Club Kid style fashion. Danny told the ECHO : “I was studying in Manchester, which for the most part was exactly what you think – a bunch of absolute nutters creating hard-hitting pieces of theatre on topics like the war on drugs, self-discovery, and lactose intolerance. At the same time I started DJing a few nights a week on Canal Street and in my time off, I started dressing in Club Kid style drag for nights out, and soon the two merged and before I knew it I was hosting events and cabaret nights.”

Danny’s career took off after they won a national drag competition in 2014, gaining the opportunity to host a series of gigs up and down the country.

Explaining what fans can expect at a show of theirs, Danny said: “I work all around the country on the cabaret scene mixing club kid aesthetic with old school drag performance style. At my shows you get live vocals, interactive comedy and an hour’s worth of entertainment for a very reasonable fee! I like to belt out Adele and finish on a big Queen number. The thing that makes people want to come back to my shows is my singing. I love it and if anyone wants to book me…”

Liverpool’s Danny Beard is competing to be crowned the UK’s Next Drag Race Superstar on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 4. The self-proclaimed “sassy, shady, singing cartoon clown” is flying the flag for Liverpool this series, following in the footsteps of the first ever winner, The Vivienne, and Sister Sister, who appeared on Season two.

Danny – who was born in Halewood, Liverpool, to mother Patricia and ‘masculine’ fireman father Luke – is the first ever bearded queen to compete on Drag Race UK. They said: “I’m a Ru Girl, I can’t believe it. I love having a beard, mixing genders and putting them in the blender. My drag is about throwing the rulebook out the window.”

On the reason they decided to join Drag Race UK, Danny said: “I’m here to be better. I want to leave the other side of Drag Race UK transformed. I want to show the world my whole self. I’m ready to show them that I can act, I can sing, I’m funny and I’ve got a big heart. I know I’ve got the minerals. I just hope I can hack the intensity and not get in my head. If they want me to change it up, I’ll change it up. Honestly, I am so nervous and excited to be on Drag Race UK. I can feel a fart brewing!”

On why they deserve to be crowned the UK’s Next Drag Race Superstar, Danny said: “Drag Race is a dream making machine and I’m here to make my dreams come true. There has never been a bearded Queen on Drag Race UK and I am making herstory with my hairy chinny chin chin. I’m here for a laugh and… plus, I’m the best!”
