Cheddar Gorgeous is a drag performer, academic and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK series 4 contestant. The Birmingham-born drag artist has been performing drag since 2009 and is well known in the UK drag scene. A self-described “Queen Bee of Manchester,” Cheddar has also previously been the star of a drag makeover TV show on Channel 4’s Drag SOS. She is also the first Drag Race UK queen with a doctorate, meaning her fellow queens might be about to get schooled.

Manchester drag queen Cheddar Gorgeous is set to star in RuPaul’s Drag Race UK series four. Alongside Copper Topp, Cheddar is the joint-oldest contestant on series four of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

In her Meet the Queens video, Cheddar said she believes she is the first ever RuPaul’s Drag Race UK contestant to hold a doctoral degree.

Before heading on the show, Cheddar Gorgeous said: “My drag is a living spectacle. A collage of makeup, costume and performance. You could see anything at a Cheddar Gorgeous show as my drag is otherworldly and ethereal.

“Growing up, I was a bit of a geek and I was enamoured by aliens, gods, goddesses and strange monsters and now in my drag, I like to harness the energy of science fiction, fantasy and magic!”

In an interview with Gay Times on whether a UK version of Drag Race would be a good thing for the UK drag scene, Cheddar said: “I think anything that gives individual artists more opportunities, and creates more opportunities for drag queens, is a good thing. But at the same time I think it’d be really great to see stuff that is grown in the UK come to a big light and actually have the same level of interest from people as Drag Race. So I think what would be great is if we have lots of different things happening, because there’s enough room for lots of stuff!”

On being be on a UK version of the hit show, Cheddar said: “I think it would depend how they set it up and what’s happening around the same time. Let’s do it, yeah!”

Out of drag, Cheddar Gorgeous is known as Dr. Michael Atkins. Michael holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology with Visual Media from the University of Manchester.
