Banksie is a drag queen and contestant on the fifth series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK on BBC Three. The seven-foot supermodel, who uses the pronouns she/her in drag and they/them out of drag, is originally from Wigan.
The 23-year-old hails from the legendary Family Gorgeous, a drag collective that was first represented on Drag Race UK‘s fourth season with matriarch Cheddar Gorgeous, who placed second behind Danny Beard.
“I stalked them all,” she fondly remembers of her early queer days in Manchester in an interview with Gay Times. “I was an 18-year-old chasing them around the club, which maybe wasn’t what they wanted at that point in time.”
An integral part of the Manchester drag scene, Banksie is an advocate for diversity and the arts. She runs a regular event at the Firehouse on Swan Street. She can be found commanding the stage and captivating audiences with her incredible cabaret performances worldwide.
Banksie has religiously watched every episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and credits the show for getting her into drag in the first place. Originally from Wigan, the non-binary drag queen had to move to Manchester due to a lack of a drag scene there.
“I wouldn’t be in this career at all without the support of Manchester,” the drag artist said. “I will never leave this place, ever. The only place I can ever see myself being until the end of time is Manchester – I have too much connection to this place.”
The drag artist studied at the Manchester School of Art. She has previously featured as part of London Fashion Week with renowned designers Pam Hogg & Matty Bovan.
