Carwyn Owen is an expert carpenter based in Powys, Wales. He has appeared on BBC’s Money for Nothing and Channel 4’s How to Live Mortgage Free. He owns C.owen desings, a carpentry and furniture design business.
Carwyn attended Sheffield Hallam University, where he studied furniture and product design. In 2015, he became the youngest person to ever make the famous Bardic chair presented during the Chairing of the Bard at the National Eisteddfod, Wales’ most famous cultural event held at Meifod, Powys. He also designed and made the National YFC Eisteddfod Chair in 2008/2009 when he was in sixth form at Caereinion High School and again in 2013 for the Powys Eisteddfod.
Carwyn Owen and his partner, Megan, were featured on the Channel 4 series How to Live Mortgage Free, hosted by Sarah Beeney. The couple, who were both living with their parents in Welshpool, managed to build their own home without a mortgage using two lorries.
Speaking on the show, Carwyn said: “We found these two lorries from a man we knew and got them in return for making furniture for his wife.
“To keep costs down I’ll be doing most of the labour and we’ll be clever about what we actually spend money on buying. Because it is a temporary structure which will be moved off its plot eventually, we don’t need planning permission.”
