Alfredo Borrero is an Ecuadorian renowned neurosurgeon and politician. He currently serves as the 52nd vice president of Ecuador since he assumed office on May 24, 2021. Borrero was elected to the vice presidency in the 2021 general elections held on February 7, 2021. He serves in the incumbent regime under President Guillermo Alberto Santiago Lasso Mendoza, who is the 47th and incumbent president of Ecuador.

He was the running mate of President Guillermo Lasso from the political party known as Creating Opportunities. Borrero was named Guillermo Lasso’s running mate in October 2020. During the February 2021 elections their ticket advanced to the April run-off election, after a narrow second-place victory over Yaku Sacha Pérez Guartambel who came third in the first round. On April 11, 2021, they defeated Andrés Arauz in the run-off election in an upset victory, after Arauz led in opinion polls. On May 19, 2021, Borrero was presented with his credentials as the constitutional Vice President in anticipation of his inauguration. He was inaugurated a week later on May 24, as the 52nd vice president of Ecuador.
