Michael Constantine was an Award-winning Greek-American actor from Reading, Pennsylvania. According to Michael Constantine’s IMDb profile, he was known for playing the Windex bottle-toting family patriarch “Gus Portokalos” in the sleeper hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002). He played principal Seymour Kaufman in the series Room 222 (1969), for which he won a 1970 Emmy Award as Best Supporting Actor. In 1971, received a second Emmy nomination and a Golden Globe nomination as Best Supporting Actor for the role.
He made his Broadway debut in the 1950s as part of the ensemble of the hit play “Inherit the Wind.” He made appearances in Gunsmoke (1955). In 1959, Constantine made his film debut after appearing in the film, ‘The Last Mile.’ In 1961, he secured a minor supporting role in The Hustler, and appeared on Perry Mason, as the murderer in 1964 and 1965 among other many appearances in the 1960s.
Constantine portrayed Santa Claus in Prancer in 1989. The same year, he was presented with the Drama Logue Award for Outstanding Performance for “Temptation” at the Mark Taper Forum Theatre in Los Angeles, California, United States. In 1993, he appeared in the independent drama Question of Faith, starring American actress Anne Archer and New Zealand actor Sam Neill. Constantine returned in 2002 portraying the Windex-toting Gus Portokalos in the famous film My Big Fat Greek Wedding. He reprised the role on the short-lived television series My Big Fat Greek Life, and a sequel film with the original cast, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, which premiered on March 25, 2016.
