Val Chmerkovskiy is a Ukrainian-born professional dancer, author, and television personality. He is cast in the 32nd season of Dancing with the Stars alongside his dance partner actress Xochitl Gomez.
Born in the Ukrainian city of Odesa, in what was then the Soviet Union. His family relocated to the United States in 1994. At the time, he was 8 years old. After two years in 1996, his brother Maksim and father Sasha opened a youth-oriented dance studio in New Jersey, and Valentin enrolled as one of the students. Valentin and partner Diana Olonetskaya, 15, became the first American dance team to win a world junior championship title in 2001.
Val is recognized as a 14-time US National Champion and two-time World Dance Champion. He became popular as a fan-favorite professional and the ultimate two-time winner of the hit series Dancing with the Stars. He has since featured on several television shows, such as Netflix’s Fuller House and Fox’s Flirty Dancing.
He has also served as a judge on the inaugural season of Dancing with the Stars: Juniors. Val also appeared in the 2021 award-winning Amazon Prime film Being the Ricardos.
