Tristan Merriam is a furniture painter and designer on BBC’s Money For Nothing. He owns Doghead Designs, a furniture studio at the Clevedon Craft Centre in Bristol, England, United Kingdom. Doghead Designs builds its foundations on vintage and antique furniture created by hand with craftsmanship.

Tristan reclaims and up-cycle quality furniture using a range of specialist paint techniques. He also leads accredited Annie Sloan workshops and takes “great pleasure in empowering others to delve into the world of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.” He is a certified stockist of this brand of paint.

The studio is located at an out-of-town location surrounded by beautiful English countryside. Other studios include Jewellers, Artists, Potters, Woodturners, Leathersmiths, Florists and wonderful Tea Rooms overlooking the duck pond.

Early Career

Tristan is a former primary school headteacher. He resigned from Tickenham Primary School, in Clevedon Road, in July 2019, to ‘take up a new challenge in business’, the North Somerset Times reported. He took over as the school’s head in 2016 and he oversaw the school reduce its class sizes in 2017, with lessons as small as nine youngsters in year six to allow teachers to spend more time with individual pupils and speed up their learning.

The primary school was also named a ‘good’ school with ‘outstanding features’ by Ofsted in 2017 under his stewardship, with inspectors noting the school’s ‘fantastic culture’ helped make children feel ‘safe and able to achieve’.
