Tony W Biography – Tony W Wiki

Tony W is a contestant on The Great British Sewing Bee 2023 and a primary school teacher in Essex. He was inspired to try sewing after watching the first Sewing Bee. He started hand sewing, and then bought himself a second-hand pattern for a woman’s halter neck waistcoat.

According to the BBC, he continued to teach himself using vintage ‘easy sew’ patterns, before moving on to more complex patterns. Now, he mainly sews for himself, and goes for big bold fabric patterns for his shirts and tailored waistcoats. Tony is a primary school teacher and in the past, has run a sewing club for the children, as he believes it’s an important life skill. On a Victorian Day, he made himself a 3-piece suit with a fun lining.

Tony is a member of two different croquet clubs, and won a regional singles competition in 2022. Recently, he took up the pipe organ and practises in his local church.

Before learning to sew, Tony was a keen knitter and crocheter, which he still enjoys. He also enjoys cycling and lives with his dog, Mim.

Tony W is one of the sewers competing in The Great British Sewing Bee Series 9 on BBC One. The popular BBC show, presented by Sara Pascoe, will see 12 crafty contestants show off their skills to the series’ resident judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant for the coveted title of Britain’s best amateur sewer.

After Tony was announced as a contestant, he wrote on Instagram: “It’s been an exciting day! Can’t believe it’s all just beginning! It’s great to be part of such a brilliant experience and share it with truly amazing people.”
