Sian Astley Biography – Sian Astley Wiki
Sian Astley is an interior designer, project manager, property renovator, landlord and DIYer. She is known for appearing on BBC1’s DIY SOS, BBC2’s Your Home Made Perfect, BBC1’s Getting The Builders In, Channel 5’s Half Built House and ITV’s May The Best House Win.
Sian set up her own building company in 1996 with only £1 and a grant from the Prince’s Trust. She told Love Money: “I saw a sign saying you can buy a new-build flat for a pound, with a 100% mortgage. I’d been homeless, I’d never had a chance to buy my own house, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to get some stability and security which, for me, is what houses represent.”
Sian and her husband and business partner Martin Sykes have built their portfolio by identifying houses and then giving them a bit of TLC before putting them onto the rental market.
Her original career plan was law and she moved from Blackburn to study it at Manchester University in 1990. She completed her studies and was contemplating heading to London to do her formal placement to become a barrister. She spent a few years working in marketing and at JW Johnson’s Bar and Restaurant. But as soon as she found her way into property she knew she’d found her ideal job.
TV Career
The only other industry she’s connected with naturally is television, where she’s appeared on Channel 4’s Property Ladder and as a regular host on Channel M’s Homesmine. At the age of 42, Sian took on her biggest TV role of all as presenter of Channel 5’s Half Built House.
In early 2022, Sian was the on-screen interior designer and project manager for DIYSOS’s Fegg Hayes Stoke “Big Build”. In 2018-20 Sian was the series launch build project manager for the first 15 houses featured on the BBC hit show Your Home Made Perfect. Sian’s work has been TV featured on BBC1’s Getting The Builders In, Channel 5’s Half Built House and ITV’s May The Best House Win.
Sian’s work has been press featured in the Sunday Times, Real Homes, Ideal Home, 25 Beautiful Homes, House Beautiful, and Move or Improve.
