Marie Hardman, also known as Marie Harding, is the mother of Sarah Harding of the British hit girl band Girls Aloud. Harding found fame in 2002 as a contestant on the ITV talent show “Popstars: The Rivals,” which paved the way for her joining Girls Aloud alongside Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl Tweedy and Nadine Coyle. The group had several hits including “Sound of the Underground,” “Love Machine” and “The Promise” before it split up in 2013.
Singer Sarah Harding died aged 39 on 5 September 2021 after a battle with breast cancer, her mother confirmed. Sarah Harding’s mother, Marie Hardman, wrote on Instagram: “It’s with deep heartbreak that today I’m sharing the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah has sadly passed away. Many of you will know of Sarah’s battle with cancer and that she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day. She slipped away peacefully this morning.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their kind support over the past year. It meant the world to Sarah and it gave her great strength and comfort to know she was loved. I know she won’t want to be remembered for her fight against this terrible disease – she was a bright shining star and I hope that’s how she can be remembered instead.”

Marie Harding is the mother of singer Sarah Harding of the British pop group Girls Aloud. Sarah Harding was the only child of John Hardman, a professional musician, and his wife, Marie Hardman. Her parents separated when she was 14 and she and her mother moved to Stockport. Marie divorced John when he met a much younger woman. This development so disgusted Sarah that she changed her name to Harding and did not speak to her father again.
