Sam Quek is a former England and Team GB hockey player and now a TV and Radio Presenter. She won 125 international caps for the England and Great Britain women’s hockey teams. In 2017, Sam Quek was awarded an MBE for Services to Hockey.
Sam has over 120 international caps for the England and Great Britain women’s hockey team, after winning her first cap at the age of 18. She has an impressive collection of medals including silver from the European and Commonwealth games in 2013 and 2014 and gold from the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. She was also awarded an MBE in the 2017 New Years Honours list for services to hockey.
Upon retiring from hockey, Sam moved into TV by appearing on the 2016 series of ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here. She’s since presented across many sports including Football, American football, Rugby and Cricket. She has presented on BBC’s daytime show Morning Live and became the first female captain of A Question of Sport in 2021. She co-anchored the BBC’s Tokyo Olympic Games Breakfast programme and regularly appears on programmes across the BBC’s radio channels.
In 2023 Sam co-hosted the opening ceremony of the Eurovision Song Contest when the contest came to her home city of Liverpool. She went on to appear on the 2024 series of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Liverpool-born Sam Quek MBE was the fifteenth celebrity contestant confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing 2024. The news was revealed on The One Show on iPlayer and BBC One.
Sam said: “As a former hockey player I’m used to playing as part of a team, but the thought of dancing on the Ballroom floor in front of a live audience is quite daunting! I’m chuffed to be a part of this legendary show and Quickstep into the shoes of a performer, it feels absolutely surreal but I’m ready for every bit of the adventure.”
In an interview with the BBC, Sam revealed the reason she agreed to take part in Strictly Come Dancing, She said: “What an opportunity. There are so many facets to Strictly. First of all, where else would you be able to learn so many different dances with a Professional Dancer every single week. That was part of the reason.
“Also, now that I’m a Mum my everyday attire is leggings and a hoodie because it’s comfy. I did used to enjoy going out with the girls and getting done up on a Saturday night, putting my heels on and having a dance. Since having kids, I don’t have the time or energy as much so to come here to be full on Strictly-fied is exciting.”
