“I never said to my mother I was gay, ever, even to this day. And then I was on The Miriam O’Callaghan Show a couple of years ago and Miriam said to me, ‘You’re a gay man…’ I just went along with it. I knew my mother was watching it. I thought, ‘She knows now. I didn’t have to tell her.’ “
“Then my mother rang me: ‘I saw you on The Miriam O’Callaghan Show last night.’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ She said, ‘You were very good. You spoke very well.’ And that was the end of the subject.”

“I’m not going to be doing anything else after this. I’ll continue with Fair City for as long as they like, that’s wonderful show to have. But when I’m 65 I want to do as little as possible! I just think that dancing lifts your heart.”
“I don’t have any expectations of winning this. I’ve plantar fasciitis. I’ve had back surgery. I’m a bit decrepit for my age! I’m in good form but I just know if I don’t do it this year, I’ll never do it.”
