Rip Torn Biography – Rip Torn Wiki

Rip Torn born Elmore Rual Torn Jr., was an American actor, voice artist, and comedian.

Torn appeared on Broadway 10 times, making his debut in Tennessee Williams’ “Sweet Bird of Youth” in 1959. He earned a Tony Award nomination in 1960 for his performance. He also received an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor for his role as Marsh Turner in the 1983 film “Cross Creek.”

Perhaps his most memorable role was as producer Artie on HBO’s “The Larry Sanders Show,” which earned him six consecutive Emmy nominations and a win for best supporting actor in a comedy series.

Following his success on the show, Torn was cast in several movies including 1997’s “Men in Black,” starring opposite Will Smith.

He was born on February 6, 1931 in Temple, Texas, United States. He died on July 9, 2019 in Lakeville, Connecticut aged 88.

Torn was married three times. His first marriage to actress Ann Wedgeworth lasted from 1956 to 1961. They had a daughter, Danae Torn. Torn married his second wife Geraldine Page in 1963 and they remained married until her death in 1987. The actress died of a heart attack. They had a daughter, actress Angelica Page, and twin sons: actor Tony Torn, and Jon Torn. Torn married actress Amy Wright in 1989. They had two children, Katie and Claire Torn.

Torn died on July 9, 2019 at his home in Lakeville, Connecticut with his family by his side. His publicist Rick Miramontez announced his death. Will Smith, who appeared with Torn in Men in Black and its first sequel, paid tribute by posting a picture of them together on Instagram.
