Ricky Duran’s father, Ricardo Duran, was born on Feb. 19, 1952, in Guatemala City and took his life on July 23, 2012. He was 60 yeras old. He obtained his bachelors in Computer Science at Northeastern University and later received his MBA from Nichols College.
Ricardo was talented musician and taught his son Ricky how to play different instruments and recording albums. During Ricky’s high school years, he played in a band together with his father. While in college at Berklee College of Music, Ricky formed his own band and his father acted as their manager.
On the Father’s Day of 2019, Ricky said of his father in an Instagram post, “I’ve been blessed to have had such a great family growing up. My dad put my first guitar in my hands and is truly my biggest inspiration. I owe everything to him and my mom. Every day that goes by is another day closer to seeing them again. Happy Father’s Day to this legend.”

Shortly after graduation, Ricky’s father tragically took his own life, but encouraged him to keep doing what he loved. Earlier this year, Ricky lost his mother to breast cancer. Ricky has dedicated his life to music to carry on his father’s legacy and comes to “The Voice” to make his parents proud.”
