Richy Werenski is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. He began playing golf at age 5. Richy attended Heritage Academy in Hilton Head, S.C., but did not compete in high school golf. He graduated with the highest GPA in his senior class.

Richy enrolled at Georgia Tech in January of 2010, but did not play until the fall, establishing himself as Tech’s regular No. 5 player. He was a regular part of Tech’s lineup since, posting six top-10 finishes, including four in the top-5, in 40 events. He was twice named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll, and to the ACC All-Academic team, as well as qualified for the U.S Amateur four times.

Werenski graduated from Tech with his bachelor’s degree in Management in May 2014 and turned pro.

He won the 2020 Barracuda Championship for his the first PGA Tour victory in his 100th career start. The tournament was played under the Modified Stableford Scoring format, with players getting eight points for albatross, five for eagle, two for birdie, zero for par, minus-one for bogey and minus-three for double bogey or worse.

The South Hadley, Mass., native holed a pitch shot from 40 yards for an eagle on the par-5 16th hole, then took the lead on the final hole when he drained a 15-foot birdie putt. He finished with 39 total points, one better than Troy Merritt.

“It’s huge,” Werenski said. “I’ve been playing well for I feel like the last couple of months, but to get a win, I mean, that’s huge. I got a couple seconds and everything, so it just helps my confidence a lot. Now I know I’m good enough, and now we’re going to go make a good move for the FedExCup Playoffs.”

The former Georgia Tech player won the event three years after losing to Chris Stroud on the second hole of a playoff. With the win, Werenski earned exemptions into the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, the U.S. Open in September at Winged Foot Golf Club, and the 2020 Players Championship.
