Sophia Schubert is an American professional golfer. Sophia won the 2017 U.S. Women’s Amateur. She turned professional in 2018 and won her first professional event at the 2021 Carolina Golf Classic on the Symetra Tour. In 2021, Sophia made 18 cuts in 20 starts on the Epson Tour. She recorded nine top-10 results including a win at the Carolina Golf Classic to finish fourth on the Race for the Card official money list to earn LPGA membership for the 2022 season.
Sophia began playing golf at the age of four, when her mom registered she and her sister for golf lessons. She was a 2010, 2012 and 2013 Tennessee high school state champion, competing for Christian Academy of Knoxville. She played college golf for the Texas Longhorns and became the first Longhorn to win the U.S. Women’s Amateur since Kelli Kuehne in 1996.
On July 24, 2022, the Epson Tour graduate and LPGA Tour rookie carded a 3-under 68 in the final round at The Amundi Evian Championship to finish one shot behind Brooke Henderson in solo second, her career-best finish in a major as well as on the LPGA Tour.
“I have a lot of support back home and they’ve been telling me over and over again, you can do this. Just be confident,” said Schubert. “I want to cry. I want to cry tears of happiness. I’m proud of myself, proud of everyone that’s helped me get to this point. It came just short, but I know that I’ll be back so I’m really happy.”
