Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani is the active shooter in the Pensacola shooting. He opened fire inside a classroom at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida on Friday morning, killing three people and injuring seven others, including the two Escambia County Sheriff’s Deputies who ended up shooting Alshamrani dead.

He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Saudi Air Force who was at the Florida base learning how to fly American-made military aircraft sold to the Saudi Arabia by the US government.

AP reports that “authorities are investigating if the shooting was terrorism-related.” According to Metro UK, “Naval Air Station Pensacola is a training facility home to 16,000 members of the military, including servicemen and women from US allies’ armed forces. Another 10,000 civilians come to work at the base each day.”

Donald Trump tweeted: “Just received a full briefing on the tragic shooting at NAS Pensacola in Florida, and spoke to @GovRonDeSantis. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time. We are continuing to monitor the situation as the investigation is ongoing.”

He added in another, “King Salman of Saudi Arabia just called to express his sincere condolences and give his sympathies to the families and friends of the warriors who were killed and wounded in the attack that took place in Pensacola, Florida. The King said that the Saudi people are greatly angered by the barbaric actions of the shooter, and that this person in no way shape or form represents the feelings of the Saudi people who love the American people.”

Florida Governor Ron De Santis said in a series of tweets,

“We are praying hard for the victims and families impacted by today’s shooting at @NASPCOLA. As a Navy veteran, today hits especially close to home. @NASPCOLA is a special place and these brave warriors come here for flight training to protect and serve our great nation.”

“The response we saw from the deputies at @ECSONews and active personnel responding to the scene is commendable and lives were saved because of the bravery of those wearing the uniform of the @USNavy and LEOs, including from those who were wounded and still helped others.”

“We have learned that the shooter was a foreign national in the employ of a foreign service. The government of Saudi Arabia needs to make things better for the victims and they’re going to owe a debt here.”

“My administration and state agencies have deployed and will continue to provide support personnel and services to all of the military, civilians and families impacted by today’s senseless act of violence.”

“In honor and remembrance of the victims of today’s shooting at @NASPCOLA, I have directed the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff immediately and remain at half-staff until sunset on Friday, December 13.”
