Matt Nickels, also known as Matthew Nickels, is a stained glass expert on BBC’s Repair Shop and conservator at the York Glaziers Trust, the oldest and largest specialist stained glass conservation studio in Britain. He is a series regular on the BBC One craft and restoration programme, The Repair Shop, appearing regularly as their specialist stained glass craftsman.
Matt graduated with a BA from the University of Manchester in 2006, and has since specialised in stained glass. Matt has worked on major projects such as the glazing of the Houses of Parliament and the £5million project to conserve the 152 panels of the St Cuthberts Window over the next five years (starting, 2021). He has over a decade of experience working and running his family-owned glazing business.
Matt joined the York Glaziers Trust in 2019 after having graduated with a distinction from the University of York’s MA in Stained Glass Conservation. His traineeship was supported by the York Minster Fund (YMF). He is a trained fire marshal and first aider.
