Madison Vandenburg is an American singer-songwriter and a contestant on season 17 of American Idol.
According to Madison’s bio on her Facebook, she is a 11th grader attending Shaker High School in Latham, New York. Throughout her entire school career, she has found interest in elite musical groups and excelled in her music classes. She has been playing piano and guitar for most of her life, and has trained classically, but her greatest passion lies in singing.
Karaoke revealed her talent at the young age of 10. Her all-time favorite song to cover at the time was, “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion. Soon, Celine became one of her biggest inspirations as a developing musician. Madison covered her greatest hits at every karaoke night she participated in. Whitney Houston’s, “I Will Always Love You” also became her new obsession, and always received a standing ovation.
In 6th grade, Madison played a big role in the school musical, Annie. As soon as she finished her lead solo, the crowd reacted with a standing ovation. This important moment in her life also helped her acknowledge her new passion. She realized then that she loved performing in front of crowds, and even more enjoyed the reaction.
Madison played at her father’s restaurant consistently for her middle school years, feeling out how the music business worked. Madison has released her debut single, “Need A Little Heartbreak” in June 2018 and is writing new songs for her very first EP! She also performs all around the Capital Region at various live music venues.
In 2017, she placed first at the CASA Proctors Talent Show, an event that raises money to help abused and neglected children. In 2019, she returned to perform at the show and sing the national anthem.
