Lil Nas X real name Montero Lamar Hill, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and internet personality.

Hill attended Lithia Springs High School and graduated in 2017. He studied for one year at the University of West Georgia before dropping out. During this time, he stayed with his sister and supported himself with jobs at Zaxby’s and Six Flags.

Lil Nas X began his career as an internet personality on Twitter. He later on gained popularity through his Nicki Minaj fan account “NasMaraj”. In 2017, his “NasMaraj” account gained attention for its interactive “scenario threads”. He then began uploading songs to Sound Cloud in 2018. Montero also released his first project called Nasarati, which contributed to his fame. On December 3, 2018, he released the country rap song “Old Town Road”.

In early 2019, the song went viral due to the “Yeehaw Challenge” meme on media app TikTok. It debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 83 and later peaking at 15. It also debuted on the Hot Country Songs chart at number 19 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at 36.
