Laszlo Nagy Biography – Laszlo Nagy Wiki
Laszlo Nagy is the head chef of the Nags Head in Tarporley and a former Chef Patron at Hypha. He is representing the North West region on Great British Menu 2023.
Laszlo got his passion for cooking from his great-grandmother, who taught him as a child to respect ingredients, and where they come from.
He told Chef Works: “My Great-Grandma as I spent loads of time with her when I was a kid and she always cooked. She showed me the basics and how to respect ingredients and the food we eat.”
Classically trained in French cuisine, Laszlo spent the beginning of his career working on cruise ships before making the leap of faith to move to London, where he was privileged to work under Chef Robert Reid at the famous Balthazar restaurant in Covent Garden (Michelin guide).
Meat eater Laszlo wanted to challenge himself by becoming a zero-waste plant-based chef, and that’s exactly what he did in 2021 when he became the Head Chef at Chester based Hypha. Since he began running the kitchen, the restaurant gained a green star and 2 AA rosettes amongst its accolades.

Laszlo Nagy is one of four chefs competing for the North West region on the Great British Menu 2023. He hopes his creative menu – inspired by the Buttercup Farm comic – will take him all the way to the Banquet.
Laszlo is ridiculously competitive and is going head to head with Danielle Heron, Head Chef at Osma, Caroline Martins, Sao Paulo Project, Sam Grainger, Chef Patron at Belzan and Madre, in a bid to represent the North West in the regional finals, and ultimately cook a dish at the final banquet.
