Jon Baddeley Antiques Roadshow Wiki, Age, Wife

Jon Baddeley Biography – Jon Baddeley Wiki

Jon Baddeley is a fine art auctioneer, expert on scientific and technical instruments and collectables and an author. He is known as a specialist on the BBC’s television program The Antiques Roadshow. He is a consultant for the international auctioneers, Bonhams Knightsbridge.

Having trained to be an engineer, Jon decided that it was not the career for him and he joined Sotheby’s as a porter. Many of his colleagues were art graduates, so whenever anything mechanical came in he was called upon for help. It is no surprise then that one of Jon’s areas of expertise is scientific and technical instruments. He also specialises in celebrity memorabilia, musical boxes, automata, folk art and marine works of art, including ship models.

In 2003, Jon joined Bonhams as Global Director of Collectors’ sales and he has since been responsible for many landmark auctions and world record prices. Highlights include the British Airways Concorde auction, the Admiral Nelson Bicentenary sale, John Lennon’ lyrics for Give Peace A Chance, Eric Clapton’s Guitar Collection and the dress worn by the late actress Judy Garland in the role of Dorothy in the film The Wizard of Oz.

In 2010, Jon became Managing Director of Bonhams, Knightsbridge – one of the busiest of the international auction house’s portfolio of salerooms – where he was responsible for auctions of jewelry, silver, paintings, furniture & works of art, specialist sales of arms & armor, sporting guns, fashion, science & technology, and pop culture memorabilia.

In 2022, Jon stepped down as MD and now works as a Consultant for Bonhams. With over 40 years experience, Jon has a wide general knowledge of decorative arts and is an acknowledged expert in the areas of instruments of science and technology and marine decorative arts.

He is the author of the reference book ‘Nautical Antiques and Collectables’ and has contributed to the Antiques Roadshow publications ‘How to Spot a Fake’ and ‘The A-Z of Twentieth Century Antiques’.
