Jeromy Young Biography

Jeromy Young is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Atomos Limited, an Australian, Hong Kong, and US (Portland) based manufacturer of high-quality video-related recording devices. Atomos designs and manufactures monitor-recorders, which can be added to existing video equipment to enhance standard definition camera into high-resolution systems. The monitors can be added to phones, tablets or professional video recorders, allowing for a simpler interface for editing and distributing content.

Jeromy founded Atomos in 2010 and has been the CEO since its inception. He is a video technology expert with more than 20 years of technology and management experience, holding previous roles as Business Development Manager at Canopus Japan and Blackmagic Design Pty Ltd.

In 2011, CEO Jeremy Young pitched his original Ninja 1 monitor to Steve Jobs. His proposition was recording ProRes directly from the sensor, which launched the strategic relationship with Apple and established credibility for the brand.

Jeromy has a Materials Engineering, Ceramics & Manufacturing degree from the University of Wollongong. After completing an engineering cadetship at BHP, Jeromy moved to Japan where he commenced at Canopus (GV) and learned the language. He advanced to become Business Development Director, growing sales from $5 million to $60 million.

Following this, Jeromy moved to a Business Development Manager role at one of Atomos’ current competitors, Blackmagic Design Pty Ltd. Prior to founding Atomos, Jeromy was a Sales and Marketing at Bluefish 444 in 2009.

In July 2021, Jeromy Young was fined for breaching Queensland COVID-19 restrictions by sailing to the Gold Coast from virus hotspot Sydney. Young arrived at Southport last week with three other people on board his 34m superyacht the Dreamtime. He then attended the rugby union test between Australia and France with about 17,000 fans in Brisbane on Wednesday night, 7 Jul 2021.

Young and his party tested negative for COVID-19 after they were discovered by authorities when Queensland Health noticed “something was amiss” on their border declaration pass, Maritime Safety Queensland general manager Angus Mitchell said.

“We’ve boarded the vessel and spoken to those on board, and realised there were inconsistencies from what they’ve declared and what we knew to be the facts in NSW,” Mitchell told 7NEWS. “That’s led them to being marched off to quarantine and to all four of them facing an over $4000 fine.”
